I put this in the repair section but figure I'll get a wider audience here. I've got a guitar that was finished in PolyWhey water-based lacquer, I've finished it twice and I do not like the way it came out. I started to try a third time but decided I would rather shoot nitro over it. My plan is to sand it down with 320, shoot 2 coats of 1# shellac followed by vinyl sealer and then nitro. Anyone see anything wrong with this plan or have a different recommendation? Thanks |

I had the same question a few weeks back. My experimental Polywhey guitar had the "blue hue" when in sunlight, and was too easy to scratch. I sanded a portion of the back with 320 and over sprayed that section with nitro. It has not been a problem so far. James |

You should be able to put a nitro over a WB without a problem. Sand out the surface at 220 and if there is no bare wood there should be no need for any type of sealer. This however will not eliminate the blue hue on the finish as that is in the WB coating. |

Thanks guys. I've decided to take it back to bare wood and start over with a nitro finish. |
